Staying Safe
Majority of the posters are safe. With billions of human interactions the chance of violent
crime is low. However, there are millions of crimes around the world every year. It is
absolutely necessary to take all the common sense safety precautions before you meet anyone
online.
How to Stay Safe
-
Do not wander in a secluded place. Preference is to meet in more public areas.
-
Be extra careful if you have negotiated high-value transactions. These should be avoided
completely if possible. If you insist on pursuing them make sure that the establishment has
a public profile that is reputable and known to others. Also, verify the identify as well
and use your common sense.
-
Be careful of situations where things can go out of your control. Getting scammed is usually
the worst but pay close attention to where you are going and who is around. Assault is not
something you want to be part of. If things appear fishy leave immediately as if you made a mistake.
-
Be extra careful if you invite someone to your home. While there is the minimal risk of crime
consider also that this is your home and you have a life there and neighbours. Theft and erratic
behavior can happen which may cause more embarassment than anything else.
-
Trust your instinct. If something appears fishy it could very well be. It's better to be safe than sorry.
